Another critical aspect of chronically elevated cortisol is its interference with insulin regulation. **Research indicates** that prolonged stress can lead to more insulin being released in the body, which is associated with increased fat storage and an even greater risk of insulin resistance (Black, 2006). Over time, this resistance can progress to type 2 diabetes.

Further complicating matters, stress can affect sleep patterns and physical activity levels—both of which are crucial factors in maintaining a healthy weight and managing diabetes risk. Lack of sleep can alter hunger hormones, leading to increased caloric intake, while reduced physical activity translates directly to fewer calories burned (Spiegel et al., 1999).

3. **Healthy Eating Habits**: Instead of reaching for high-calorie comfort foods, stock up on healthier, satisfying alternatives like nuts, fruits, and whole grains. Meal prepping on the weekends can help ensure you have healthy options available during stressful times.

While stress might be an unavoidable part of life, being aware of its impact on the body gives us the power to take control.
